Great Himalayan National Park






Away from the humdrum of cityscapes is a landscape beckoning a visit. This summer, as a WWF Explorer you could be hot on the trail of a western tragopan, endemic to the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), is also the state bird of Himachal Pradesh. If you are lucky, you could even spot one! If not, the park supports a number of other threatened species including the Himalayan black bear, the endangered and elusive snow leopard and the critically endangered red-headed vulture.  

 

This mountain landscape has a complex ecosystem with the occurrence of both the temperate and alpine vegetation in a compact geographic space making it a biodiversity hotspot. It, therefore, has an inexhaustible repository of flora and fauna. The park is bounded on the east by the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas is a haven for the wanderlust explorer.
