Kaas Plateau: a collage of dusky pink, purple and emerald; 22km from Satara this treasure trove is just a short drive from Pune. August & September being an ideal time to see Kaas in all its full bloomed glory, makes this unpolished gem ideal for a visit.
Kaas derives its name from the Kaasa tree- known for its simmering burnt orange, scarlet, ochre leaves contrasted by its starched white flowers. This picturesque UNESCO World Heritage Site is dotted with 850 species of exotic flowers, rare carnivorous plants and the occasional gushing waterfall.
A Monet painting - smudged in canary, sunset and old rose, with sprays of white in the backdrop of the rugged Sahyadris, Kaas is an ideal spot to escape and levitate to reach a new high.
Experience silence— interwoven with the occasional gushing rivulets, call of a hornbill or the hoot of the lone wind. Sacred groves are relic forest patches which have been traditionally protected by the local community. The Sayadari-Konkan region is dotted with these forests and they go a long way to form a repository of forest biodiversity providing refuge to many plants and animal species.
WWF-India offers you an exciting chance to experience the valley of flowers of the Sayadari, the silence of the Sacred groves & the Chalkewadi windmill farms
